Girls Golf: Swenson, Klima advance in Section 1AAA

Brianna Swenson and Terra Klima advanced to the finals of the Section 1AAA tournament as individuals as the Tigers finished 10th in a 12-team field in the opening round played Thursday, June 2, at Cannon Golf Club in Cannon Falls.
Owatonna led Northfield 357-359 at the top of the standings at the end of the first round. Lakeville South ranked third at 367, followed by Lakeville North 369, Rochester Mayo 380, Rochester John Marshall 395, Winona 403, Albert Lea 410, Rochester Century 412, Farmington 429 and Austin 430 and Faribault 464.
"As a team we shaved 31 strokes off our score from last year on the same course," Tiger coach Rob Carpentier said. "I am very proud of the girls."
Swenson finished at an even 100 on the windy day in Cannon Falls with Klima three shots back at 103.
"Bri has a realistic, albeit an outside, shot at the state meet," Carpentier said.
Annie Grengs came in third for the Tigers at 114, followed by Megan Elliot and Mia Johnston 116 and Alexi House 127.
The final 18-hole round will be played Monday, June 6, back at the Cannon Golf Club.
