Boys Swimming: Tigers 8th at U of M

Farmington finished eighth in a quality 16-team field Bronze Division of the Maroon and Gold Invitational held Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Simley won the division title with 329.5 points. Forest Lake was runner-up with 321.5, followed by Andover 309, Tartan 306.5, Osseo 293, St. Cloud Tech 268, Mankato West 268, Farmington 262, Apple Valley 206, Blaine 185, North St. Paul 176, Chisago Lakes Area 168, Park, Cottage Grove 142.5, Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano 139, Shakopee 119 and South St. Paul 2.

"We had a couple guys not able to swim, so we weren't  as strong as we would have liked," coach Ryan Hamen said. "But we had some great times. Lots of good swims closer to personal-bests at this meet."

The Tigers put together top 10 finishes in nine of the meet's 12 events with the best performance a third place effort by Daniel Berg in the 50 freestyle.

Two individuals, Austin Kueck in the 200 individual medley and Jonathan Bovee in one-meter diving, placed fourth as did the 200 freestyle relay team of Eric Schimmel, Brandon Dion, Berg and Jonathan Kingsbury.

The 400 freestyle relay foursome of Berg, Garrett Haugen, Dion and Schimmel ranked sixth. Ben Gunderson scored sixth place points in the 100 backstroke.

Berg (100 freestyle) and Dion (100 butterfly) each added eighth place efforts in individual events to their busy days. Kueck finished 10th in the 500 freestyle.

The Tigers swing back into action next Thursday when the travel to Red Wing for a Missota Conference dual meet.
