Justin Hyytinen broke a meet and school record in the 1600-meter run at the Hamline Elite meet held Friday night at Hamline University in St. Paul.
The speedy Tiger junior ran the four-lap race in 4:14.05 to break the old mark of 4:15.16 set in 2008 by Irondale's Andy Richardson. It also eclipsed the previous school mark of 4:19 set in 1983 by Roger Thelen.
Hyytinen's blue ribbon performance wasn't the only Tiger first place finish at the elite meet. The girls' 4x200 relay team of Emma Record, Jennifer Miller, Megan Graham and Isabelle Ferm led the talented field with a finishing time of 1:43.07.
The Farmington boys also had several top finishes at the invitation-only meet, including:
4x400 meter relay: 3rd Ryan Parco, Nehemiah Rockett, Devon Webb, Tanner Grubb, 3:25.71; 200-meter dash: 5th Grubb, 22.59;
300-meter hurdles: 6th. Rockett, 40.22;
High jump: 6th Wyatt Ferm, 6-2
800-meter run: 9th Webb, 2:00.74,
3200-meter run: 13th Hyytinen, 9:53
110-meter hurdles: 15th Rockett, 15.82
