Boys Swimming and Diving: Huls, Magalis lead veteran Tiger team

Tyler Magalis
6th in one-meter diving in Class AA last season

Diver Tyler Magalis and swimmer Brian Huls, a pair of all-Missota Conference performers, head the list of returning lettermen who coach Ryan Hamen hopes will lead the Tigers to the upper division of the conference and section races.
"We have a diverse team with a large number of new and returning swimmers who can swim multiple events," Hamen said. "We are optimistic we can reach high placement in both the conference and section meets."
Hamen lost just three seniors--Cameron Cain, Brian Lane and Ryan Lane--from last year's team that ranked third at the Section 1AA Championships last March.
Magalis capped his all-conference junior season by placing sixth on the one-meter board at the Class AA state meet. Huls swam the 50 freestyle at state and teamed with Magalis and sophomores Loren Hatten and Zach Holton to make the state cut in the 200 medley relay.
Hatten and Holton are back as is senior Allen Berg who set a school record in the 500 freestyle last season. Other top returnees include senior Matt Stephan, junior Christopher Kirchmann, sophomore Allan Lane and freshman Nick Stephan.
"We have a lot of new upperclassmen who are also showing potential to do well," Hamen said.
The Tigers open their 2010-11 season Saturday, Dec. 11. with an appearance at the Prior Lake Invitational.
