Alumni Tracker: Huls helps UST to MIAC Title

Former Tiger Erik Huls capped his outstanding collegiate career with four top ten finishes to help the University of St. Thomas win its second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's swimming and diving championship.

Huls won the 100 butterfly to claim all-MIAC honors and took eighth in the 50 freestyle. The ex-Tiger also swam on the runner-up 400 medley and fourth place 200 medley relay teams...Another former Tiger standout, Jaymes Awbrey, swam for Carleton College at the MIAC meet.

2011 Tiger grad and state Class AA one-meter diving champion Tyler Magalis ranked fifth in both the one and three-meter diving competitions for St. Cloud State at the All Saint's meet held at St. John's University.

Abby Kenealy (2008) wrapped up her collegiate basketball career this week. Kenealy finished her senior season as the Mustangs leading scorer (14 points per game) and rebounder (4.7). She also ranks among the top 20 career scorers in that school's history.

Five other former FHS women's players finished their regular seasons last week. 2009 Athlete of the Year Kirstee Rotty averaged 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds to help St. Olaf College into the MIAC playoffs....Elena Koch (2011) scored 4.9 points and pulled down 3.2 rebounds a game for the College of St. Benedict.

Jordan Bridges of the Tiger class of 2011 has averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds a night for Jamestown College (North Dakota) which won the Dakota Athletic Conference title and is currently ranked fourth in the NAIA Division II national poll with a 26-3 record...A third member of last year's graduating class, Jamie Kenealy, has played in 22 of 26 games for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, averaging a point and a rebound a game in a reserve role...Carlye Chell, who left Farmington after her sophomore season, averaged 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds for the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

(2009) is averaging 8.5 points, three rebounds and 1.5 steals a game for the Rochester Community and Technical College men's hoops team that owns a 19-6 season record.

A pair of FHS grads and former state throwing champions, Trey Davis and Logan Hussung, finished one-two in the shot put at the Snowshoe Open indoor track meet at the University of Minnesota...Ex-FHS jumper Michael Amofah (St. Cloud State) finished 11th in the long jump at the meet.

The same day at the the U of M, three former Tigers ran in the women's Parent's Day meet. Erin Hickey (Minnesota-Duluth) took 11th in the long jump while Kaitlin Mincke (Minnesota) ranked 17th in 1000-meter run and Jackie Beckett (Minnesota, Mankato) placed 17th in the 600-meter run.

Former Tiger hockey standout Alex Carlson has three goals and five assists this season for the Ohio State University men's puck team...2011 Tiger grad Krystal Baumann has recorded five goals and six assists for the University of Vermont's women's team.
