Wrestling: Tigers spank Aggies 57-18

John Walz
Won decision in the 138-pound match

Farmington closed out its dual meet season with a lopsided 57-18 non-conference win over St. Agnes Thursday night in St. Paul.

More than half of the Tiger point total came via six-point falls with Matt Rustad (120 lbs.); Chris McCue (145); Ridge Raddatz (152); Joe Hoeve (160); Trevor Breezley (170) and Tyler Engel each pinning their opponent.

John Walz scored a three-point decision in the 138-pound bout and Taylor Venz (106); Jacob Gabbard (113) and Brian Caravantes (126) each won by forfeit.

Despite the one-sided win, Farmington coach Chad Olson said his team, hampered by illness and injury the past couple of weeks, still has a lot of preparation ahead for the post-season.

"We still are not at full strength," he said. "The illness bug claimed wrestlers No. 10 and No. 11 in the last week."

The Tigers have eight days to get get healthy before they host the Section 2AAA team tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18. The section individual tournament is slated for Feb. 24-25 at Shakopee.
