Boys Soccer: Tigers finish with, what else, a tie

The good news from Tiger Stadium Thursday night was Farmington ended a scoring drought that had produced just one goal in its past four games.

The score, a first half goal by Jared Wolt off a corner kick by Blake Smith, wasn't enough for the Tigers to end their regular season with a win, however.

Visiting Shakopee countered with a score of its own with just 4:46 to play in regulation for a 1-1 overtime tie.

The draw was the fifth of the season for the Tigers who will bring a 6-4-5 record into next week's Section 1AA tournament.

"We talked about increasing our focus and intensity on corner kick opportunities," Tiger coach Julian Buss said, "and it was great to see this play out in a goal on the field."

Robin DeCastro headed Smith's corner kick and Wolt finished off the play for his team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Goalie Jake Agnew turned in another fine outing in the net, stopping 19 of 20 shots. Agnew has allowed just 16 goals in 15 games this season.

The Tigers finished the conference season with a 2-2-3 mark, good enough for a fifth place finish in the final eight-team standings.

With a 4-2-1 record against Section 1AA opposition Buss is hoping his team will draw a top-four seed and opening round home game for the section tournament which begins on Thursday.
