Alumni Tracker: Ex-Tigers move deep into post-season play


A handful of ex-Tigers now competing at the collegiate level have helped their respective teams advance well into the fall post-season.
Cody Eich (left) of the FHS Class of 2007, had three tackles and three assists to help defending NCAA Division II national champion University of Minnesota-Duluth to a 24-21 win over previously unbeaten Colorado-Pubelo in this year's second round. The Bulldogs, who have won two of the last three Division II national titles, play Metro State University (Michigan) in the national quarterfinals this weekend.
2011 Tiger grad Katie Habeck, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Volleyball Freshman of the Year for Concordia University-St. Paul, will be in San Bernardino, California this weekend as the Golden Bears chase their fifth straight Division II national crown. Habeck has already been named to the all-NSIC and All-Central Region teams this fall.

2005 Tiger male co-Athlete of the Year Matt Simon continues to bask in the glow of his first year as a coach. The former Tiger and Northern Illinois University football standout is the tight ends coach at the University of St. Thomas who routed Monmouth (Illinois) 38-10 last Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals against Saint John Fisher (New York) this Saturday in St. Paul.
1989 Tiger male Athlete of the Year Matt Walter saw his Annandale High School football team's dream post-season run end at the Metrodome in a 21-9 loss to eventual Class 3A runner-up Fairmont in the state semifinals. Annandale began the season 0-4 before finishing the regular season 3-5 and reeling off four straight playoff wins.
2011 Tiger alum Krystal Baumann's four goals and four assists make her the second leading scorer for the University of Vermont women's hockey team this season....2011 Tiger grad Tyler Grubb dressed for his first collegiate game for Wisconsin-River Falls in the Falcons' 2-1 win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Nov. 19.
2009 female Athlete of the Year Kirstee Rotty had a season-high 15 points, including three three-pointers, 5 rebounds and three assists in St. Olaf's 71-60 non-conference win over Luther College...Abby Kenealy, a 2008 FHS graduate, is scoring 16.3 points and pulling down three rebounds a night for Southwest State University...Through 11 games in her freshman season at Jamestown College (North Dakota), 2011 Tiger alum Jordan Bridges is averaging 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds a game.

Farmignton swimming and diving was well-represented in the University of St. Thomas' recent win at the Alman Invitational at Macalester College in St. Paul with four former FHS swimmers scoring points for the winners. Erik Huls (left) was on the winning 200 medley relay team and took fifth in the 100 breaststroke while brother Brian Huls ranked third in the 100 freestyle. Nick Haugen placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke and Taylor Trowbridge finished 10th in the 100 freestyle....Tiger grad James Awbrey is a senior swimmer for Carleton College.
