Girls Basketball: Tigers fall to Panthers 64-33 in opener

Mariah Mincke
11 points, 3 steals vs. Rochester Century

Rochester Century jumped to an early lead and never looked back in a 64-33 win over the Tigers Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Rochester. The non-conference contest between the section rivals was the first of the season for both teams.

The game was also the inaugural game for Tiger coach Sondra Chadwick who said her young team would have to do a better job on the glass if it is going to stay in games.

"Rebounding was our biggest problem," she said. "We only had 13 and we gave them too many second chances. If we don't rebound, it is difficult to get momentum by pushing it in transition.

"The girls will really need to focus on getting physically and mentally tougher as we are a small team. That means we have to work harder."

Century led 37-19 at intermission and then held the Tigers to just 14 second half points.

The Tigers who were without the services of leading scorer Taylor Meyer (knee) as well as Gabby White and Dava White, were led by Mariah Mincke with 11 points.

Freshman guard Sofia Chadwick finished with nine points, three assists and two steals in her first varsity game. Her back court mate, Isis Alexander, scored seven points, handed out five assists and came up with a pair of steals.

The Tigers open their home season Friday night (Dec. 2) when they entertain Rochester John Marshall at 7:30 at Tiger Gym.
