Danielle Duffy scored three goals in the first period as Hastings (2-0) edged the Tigers 3-2, Tuesday night, Nov. 15, at Hastings Civic Arena.
Duffy opened the scoring just 3:31 after the opening face-off before Chloe Batta countered three minutes later for the visitors with an unassisted goal, her second of the young season.
Duffy then completed her first period hat trick to give her team a two-goal cushion at the first break.
"All three of their goals came from repeated attempts in front of the net," coach Jon Holmes said. "We talked about it not just being good enough to be in the right spot...we changed it up and played well the rest of the game.
Tiger defender Katie Burgess provided the only scoring of the second period with a shorthanded goal on an assist from Haley Doll.
The Raiders outshot Farmington 28-17 in the contest, including a 10-5 advantage in the pivotal first period.
Tiger goalie Jess Erchul stopped 25 of 28 shots to run her two-game save total to 51 (of 55 shots), a save percentage of .927.
"The girls sure gave it their all and played tough until the final buzzer," Holmes said. "All in all, we have some real positives to take from the game while still understanding that we have some work to get done this week in practice."
The Tigers (1-1) jump back into action Thursday night when they entertain Section 1AA rival Rochester Mayo at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
