The young Tigers hung with Rosemount for two periods before the Irish took control with three third period goals in a 6-4 loss Tuesday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena.

The defeat evened the Tigers season record at 2-2 heading into Thursday night's non-conference home game with Section 1AA rival Owatonna.

"We played well and had a great start," Tiger coach Keith Revels said. "We took an early lead and and then responded well when Rosemount made it 2-1."

Chris Fitzgibbons (from Tanner Grubb) and Jack Erickson (from Devin Bernu and Grady Hauswirth) scored goals and goalie Austin Burke turned away all six Rosemount shots to give the home team a 2-0 lead heading to the first break.

The Irish struck first in the second period but Justin Hyytinen responded with his first varsity goal on the power play (from Kevin Olund) to push Farmington's lead to 3-1. (Note: The first period assists by Benru and Hauswirth were also their first varsity points)

"The game turned very physical in the second period which does not play to our strengths," Revels said, "but that's something we have to play through. Our boys played tough all night but came up just short."

Rosemount tied the count with two late scores in the second period and then added two more in the third to take a 5-3 lead before Tanner Grubb (from Erickson) pulled Farmington to within a goal with
2:11 to play in regualtion.

The Tigers outshot the Irish in the contest by a count of 42-25 in the rough-and-tumble game with Farmington netkeeper Austin Krause totaling 29 saves.

Revels said he is looking forward to having his team taste victory on its home ice for the first time this season against Owatonna.

"I have no doubt that our players are up for that challenge and will be ready to play," he said.
