Gymnastics: A clean sweep at Red Wing

Kiana Lord turned in a dominant performance as the Tigers defeated Red Wing 126.04-122.075 Tuesday night at the Red Wing Gymnastics Center. The meet was the Missota Conference opener for both schools.

Lord swept all four events and accumulated 34.825 total points in the process to claim the all-around title.

The talented senior won the vault with a mark of 9.125; the uneven bars with 7.925; the beam with 8.5 and floor exercise with a score of 9.275.

Kathryn Beckett also had a big night for the Tigers, earning a pair of seconds and a third place finish. Beckett was runner-up on the beam  (8.35) and in all-around (31.575) and third on the bars.(7.425) .

Taylor Schmaltz ranked second in floor exercise (8.35) and Racquel Beckett finished third in vaulting (8.7).

"It was good to get a conference meet under our belt," coach Lynn Bauman said. " We DO have room for improvement but it was fun to see all the junior varsity girls compete."

The Tiger JV won the JV meet 118.2-101.7, finishing first in all four events. 

Gina Mercurio won the vault (8.1) and tied teammate Racquel Beckett for first in floor (8.3). Beckett won top honors on the bars (7.0) and Kendall Novak placed first on the beam (7.3).

Next Tuesday the Tigers head to Northfield for a date with the defending Class A state champion Raiders.
