Owatonna broke a scoreless tie 4:37 into the second period to get the Tigers attention, but from that point forward forward, it was blowout of major proportions.

Farmington countered with five unanswered goals in the second period and then tacked on three more in the third for a dominating 8-1 over the Huskies Thursday night  at Schmitz-Maki Arena.

The victory lifted the Tigers' season record to 3-2 and a perfect 3-0 against Section 1AA competition.

"We got off to a bit of a sluggish start, about as off as we have been in this season," Tiger coach Keith Revels said.

"But we came back with a good response after giving up the first goal. We got better as the game went on. After we got the first one, things started clicking quickly."

Tanner Grubb netted his third goal in as many games to tie the count and then Justin Hyytinen put his team on top for good with a power play score.

Hyytinen, Jack Erickson and Alex Aubrecht each added goals later in the period for a commanding 5-1 lead going into the final break.

Hyytinen completed his hat trick with another power play goal in the third period sandwiched between Erickson's second of the night and Jordan Lugowksi's first of the season.

Justin Novak and Grant Hauswirth each had a pair of assists for the winners. Lugowksi, Aubrecht, Erickson and Kevin Olund had one apiece as eight Farmington players scored at least a point.

Farmington controlled the play through the final two periods, out-shooting the Huskies by a lopsided 39-12.

Austin Krause turned in what Revels termed a "solid" performance in goal to pick up his second win of the young season. Krause finished the contest with 19 saves.

"Austin came up big on a couple of occasions after we made defensive zone turnovers," Revels said.

The Tigers will look to move two games above .500 for the first time next Tuesday when they travel to Apple Valley for another non-conference game.
