Apple Valley used its size and ability to score from the foul line to pull out a come-from-behind 55-54 win over the hard-luck Tigers Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.

The loss was the fifth straight for Farmington which has lost its last three games by a combined total of 10 points.

"Apple Valley was the toughest team we have played yet this year," Farmington coach Sondra Chadwick said. "We knew this was a much bigger and more physical team than we were used to playing, but the girls stepped up to the challenge and played like a team.

"Everyone contributed in some way.  We had three kids in double figures for the first time this season. We had great defensive stops and key rebounds and the girls were aggressive in attacking the basket."

The Tigers put together their best first half of the season in building a 26-17 lead against the Eagles.

"We came out shooting very well with everyone contributing," Chadwick said. "We played great defense and forced a number of turnovers."

Farmington managed to hold the lead until four minutes remained in regulation when the Eagles finally pulled ahead by going inside and getting to the foul line.

After Valley missed a pair of free throws with nine seconds to play, the Tigers got off a shot and another off the rebound but neither found the mark.

"They hit their free throws late in the game and their two bigs combined for 19 points in the second half," Chadwick said. "That was the difference."

Sofia Chadwick led the trio of Tigers in double figures with 21 points and also recorded team-highs in rebound sand assists with seven apiece. Abby Gallus finished with 11 points, nine in the second half, and Aly Grebner provided a spark off the bench with 10 points. Jordyn Homeier chipped in with six points and five rebounds.

"I let the girls know that if we can compete with a team like Apple Valley, we can compete with anyone and I think they are now believing it," coach Chadwick said. "All of their hard work in practice is beginning to pay off."

Thursday the Tigers open Missota Conference play with a  road contest at Red Wing.
