After seven rough and tumble Missota Conference games Farmington took a breather from league play Monday night and the results were encouraging.

The Tigers rolled past Waseca 70-42 in a non-conference contest at Tiger Gym.

"This was a nice refresher after a tough loss and a nice change of pace game during a very tough conference schedule," coach Shane Wyandt said. "This was a Waseca team that we've seen hang right with some teams from our conference and section earlier this season so we came in expecting them to play tough.

"I think we just jumped on them early and never really gave them a chance to re-group and gain some confidence...I think all of our kids that hit the floor really did a nice job in most aspects of the game."

Farmington jumped to a quick start against a young Blue Jay team and by halftime owned a commanding 35-22 lead.

The second period featured more of the same with Wyandt being able to substitute freely and give his regulars some valuable rest.

"We have some kids still battling illness, so hopefully we can use the next few days get everyone healthy," Wyandt said.

Nine different players scored for the Tigers with Mac Basseett and Zach Speikers leading the scoring parade with 18 and 13 points respectively. Eli Rockett added eight and Darren Beenken and Alex Chadwick each chipped in with seven.

Nick Varner scored six points and also had four rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots. Speikers also pulled down four rebounds for the Tigers.

Farmington shot 51.6 percent for the floor in the contest while holding the visitors to just 14 for 47 shooting for 29.8 percent.

Friday the Tigers kick off the second half of the Missota Conference campaign with a home game against Red Wing. Farmington downed the Wingers 77-67 in overtime when the two teams meet in Red Wing in early January.
