Boys Swimming: Tigers dominate young Sabers

Daniel Berg 3 first place finishes
Shakopee has had a boys' swimming and diving program for just five years and it it showed in the Tigers' 104-77 romp past the Sabers last Thursday night at the Dodge Middle School pool.

"The swimmers swam a lot of off events and had a fun time with it," Farmington coach Ryan Hamen said.

"Shakopee is starting to grow in its strength but we have enough depth that we can manipulate our line-up to be able to swim strong."

The Tigers won the meet's first 10 events before swimming the final two in exhibition status where no points were earned.

Foreign exchange student Oliver Chow racked up three first place finishes, winning the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and teaming with Dahlton Bell, Christian Bell and Daniel Berg to capture the 200 medley relay.

Berg added a win in the 50 freestyle and a third in the 500 freestyle to his night's body of work.

Other Farmington event winners included Austin Kueck, 200 freestyle; Christopher Kirchmann, 200 individual medley; Christian Bell, 100 freestyle; Evan Carufel, one-meter diving; Eric Schimmel, 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay foursome of Kirchmann, Tyler Lerbakken, Aaron Cochnauer and Brandon Dion.

Kirchmann took second in the 100 butterfly as did Dahlton Bell in the 100 backstroke and Schimmel in the 50 freestyle.

Cameron Molnar placed third in both the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Three other Tigers scored third place points: Bradley Dow in the 100 freestyle; Jonathan Bovee in diving and Dion in the 200 freestyle.

Tuesday  night the Tigers head to Rochester for a dual meet with Section 1AA rival John Marshall.
