The Tigers posted their most impressive win of the season with a 1-0 shutout of Park, Monday, Sept. 12, in Cottage Grove. The victory boosted Farmington's season record back to the .500 mark at 4-4.
"We found out some things about ourselves by beating a ranked team that came in at 6-1," coach Rob Carpentier said. "Park is flat out better than three of the four teams that have beaten us this year. This was potentially a very big win for us."
The Tigers got the better of the play in the first half but couldn't finish off several scoring opportunities. Perhaps the best came eight minutes in when Ashley Kimmel's penalty kick was stopped by the Wolfpack keeper.
The game-winner came with three minutes left in regulation when Hannah Miller won a corner kick and Kelly Kornamnn put the ball in front of the Park net to Rachel Beck whose header was saved again by the Wolfpack goaltender.
Park tried to get the ball to the opposite wing where Tia Jacoby sent it back in and sophomore Izzie Ferm headed into the net for her first varsity goal and the upset victory.
"We talked about a win jump starting our season and it happened," Carpentier said. "We did suffer a couple of injuries but we made some adjustments and the girls who came into replace them played very well."
Kenya Macias suffered what appeared to be a potentially serious ankle injury and sweeper Leah Zak may have had a concussion. Kayla Kucala also left the game with a minor leg injury in the first half, setting up replacement Ferm's late game heroics.
The Tigers travel to Red Wing Thursday and Rochester Mayo on Saturday before returning to Tiger Stadium Tuesday, Sept. 20, for a Missota Conference match-up with Chanhassen.
