The Tigers put up a good effort, especially after playing four matches on Saturday in a tournament in Coon Rapids, but came out on the short end of a 3-1 count in a non-conference loss to Hastings, Monday, Sept, 12, at Tiger Gym.
Hastings eked out 25-22 and 29-27 wins in the first two games before the Tigers clawed their way to a 25-20 victory in game three. Hastings prevailed in the fourth 25-21.
"The scores told the story," coach Mike Woody said. "It was a very good competitive match that went back and forth. Other than the last half of game one, I was very pleased with our execution and effort. Games two and three we played some really good volleyball. Game four we just could not get back from a slow 1-7 start.
"I do think that fatigue from the weekend might have been a factor, but I was proud of the girls despite the loss. I would talk about some standouts, but we have been such a balanced team...it has completely been a team effort."
Emily Nelson led the Tigers with nine kills with Bekah Lippert and Laura Steege adding six and five respectively. Setter Mia Johnston finished with 16 assists and Emily Fahning contributed a pair of service aces.
Libero Adrienne Jolicoeur came up with a team-high 20 digs. Rachel Eckert added 18, Nelson 17 and Johnston 10.
Fahning led a five-play contingent in double figures in service receptions with 19. Nelson had 17, Eckert 16, Jolicoeur 11 and and Steege 10.
Thursday the Tigers jump back into Missota Conference action with a home match against Chanhassen before hosting the annual 16-team Farmington Invitational Saturday at Tiger Gym.
