Boys Cross Country: Tigers 7th in Missota

Dan Block, 20th place
All-Missota Conference honorable mention

Sophomore Dan Block held off junior teammate Jordan Lugowski for the final all-conference honorable mention award as the Tigers placed seventh at the Missota Conference Championships run Thursday, Oct. 18, at the New Prague Golf Course.
Chanhassen and Chaska, the newest kids on the Missota block, ranked first and second in the standings with respective point totals of 38 and 75. Red Wing took third with 84, followed by Northfield 96, New Prague 108, Shakopee 137, Farmington 150 and Holy Angels 201.
Block hit the finish line of the 5000-meter race in 17:34 in 20th place, one spot and one second in front of Lugowski.
The other five Tiger runners finished in a tight 43-second span: junior Tyler Lerbakken 34th, 18:08; sophomore Jake Rudeen, 37th , 18:24; junior Adam Wallenta, 38th, 18:31; sophomore Tanner Grubb, 43rd, 18:35 and senior Patrick Sunderman, 53rd, 18:51.
"We were hoping for a higher finish," Tiger coach Lisa Lippold said, "but when we looked at how everyone did individually, we were pleased overall. The top seven boys all dropped their times anywhere from five to 45 seconds from three weeks ago on the same course."
The Tigers bring down the curtain on their 2011 season next Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Section 1AA Championships at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna.
"Our goal for the section meet is to go out and compete and hopefully have the boys get their pr's for the season," Lippold said.
