Girls Swimming: Tigers edge Chaska by a point

Kaitlyn O'Reilly (top) 3 firsts and a second
Zoe Avestruz A first and 3 seconds

The outcome wasn't quite as nail-biting as the final 92-91 team score indicated but Tiger coach Jen Marshall said she was happy to leave Chaska with a 92-91 dual meet victory Thursday night.
"It's been a long week for us," Marshall said, "but we're happy with the girls' performances. Although everyone's feeling a bit sluggish, they stepped up against Chaska."
Farmington built 92-79 advantage through 11 events before swimming the finale, the 400 freestyle relay, in exhibition status.
In the end, Farmington's depth provided the difference as the Tigers finished first in just five of the meet's 12 events. Kaitlyn O'Reilly was in on three of them, winning the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke and joining with Kirsten Kracke, Ellie Sundet and Zoe Avestruz in claiming the 200 freestyle relay.
Avestruz took top honors in the 200 freestyle and Kracke was victorious in the 50 freestyle.
Farmington piled up the second place points, finishing runner-up in eight different individual events: Cora Ruzicka, 200 medley and 500 freestyle; Avestruz, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Kracke, 100 freestyle; Kendall Novak, diving; Abby Haugen, 50 freestyle and Robin Ellis, 100 backstroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of O'Reilly, Kracke, Sundet and Avestruz also placed second.
Nikki Cayard placed third in diving and Sundet ranked third in the 50 freestyle.
The good news about the upcoming week is all three meets will be contested at the Dodge Middle School pool. Tuesday, Hastings comes to town for a non-conference dual and Thursday the Tigers entertain New Prague. Saturday the Tigers host the Section 1 True Team where they will attempt to defend their 2010 title.
