Girls Cross Country: Tigers 5th at Shakopee

First Tiger finisher at Shakopee and Waseca

Maricia Pacheco and Maria Kiminski each placed among the top 15 runners to lead the Tigers to a fifth place finish at the 10-team Shakopee Invitational held Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Memorial Park in Shakopee.
Host Shakopee grabbed five of the first six places to easily with the team title with 42 points. Holy Family Catholic ranked second with 62, followed by New Prague 118, Northfield 120, Farmington 149, Robbinsdale Cooper 149, Chanhassen 170 Richfield 197, St. Francis 208 and St. Paul Central 224. (Note: Farmington and Cooper tied for fifth with the Tigers getting the higher place on the sixth-runner tie-breaker).
After coming back from an early season leg injury, Pacheco has returned to join Kiminski at the front of the Tiger pack. The hard-working sophomore finished 12th overall, covering the 4000-meter course in 16:16.5. Junior Kiminksi was right behind, ranking 14th in 16:21.4.
Three freshmen followed on the Farmington scorecard. Sofia Chadwick finished 32nd in 17:00.4; Alexis Johnson 45th in 17:33.3 and Sarah Cummings 49th in 17:41.9. Eighth-grader Maricella Pacheco placed 49th in 18:0.1.
"Maricia and Maria have shown their consistency," Tiger coach Heidi Revels said. "The girls continue to work at running as a team. It’s exciting to watch as their confidence grows and to see their excitement when they finish in the times they are working for."
Next up for the Tigers are the Missota Conference Championships slated for Tuesday, October 18, at the New Prague Golf Course.

Waseca Invitational

The Tigers tuned up for the Shakopee meet with a third place finish at the six-team Waseca Invitational held Friday, Oct. 7, at the Waseca Lakeside Golf Course.
Maricia Pacheco (16:05) and Kiminski (16:14) again led the Tiger effort with seventh and eighth place finishes respectively. Chadwick placed 13th (16:34); Johnson 17th (17:24); Maricella Pacheco 19th (17:35); Cummings 20th (17:36) and Morgan Medved 26th (18:26).
