After a five-game stretch where they didn't score more than two goals, the Tigers needed a pick-me-up heading into post-season play. They got it in the form of a 10-0 whitewash of New Prague Thursday afternoon, Oct. 6, at Tiger Stadium.
The Trojans, in their first year playing a varsity schedule, proved no match for Farmington who scored seven unanswered goals in the first half despite playing against a gusty southwest wind.
"After a four-game road trip, it was a good homecoming game for us," coach Julian Buss said. "We played a good game of possession and passing. The senior boys enjoyed the last regular season home game of their careers. It was certainly a festive evening."
Robin DeCastro's header off a corner kick from Jared Wolt opened the scoring floodgates 12 minutes into the opening half and the goals just kept coming.
Brandon Scott went on a one-man scoring binge with four consecutive scores to make it 5-0 before Cole Landweher and Kenny Riley added goals late in the half for the seven-goal cushion.
Landwehr scored the eighth Tiger goal 1:06 after the second half kickoff and Sam Leske and Alec Hogstad tallied goals later as Farmington scored in double digits for the first time this season.
Scott had an assist to go with his four goals and Landwehr chipped in with two assists for a four-point game. DeCatsro finished with a goal and an assist. Urive Omana and Reid Wolfe also had assists for the winners.
Chad Stivers worked the Farmington net in the first half with Mike Ricker taking over after intermission so senior Stivers could try his hand at a field position.
The victory gives Farmington an 8-6-2 season record (4-2-1 in the Missota Conference) heading into this weekend's Section 1AA seeding. Section play begins Thursday, Oct. 13.
