Girls Soccer: Missota ends in 3-way title tie

After Tuesday's hard-fought win over Holy Angels the Tigers knew they owned at least a piece of the 2012 Missota Conference championship.

Forty-eight hours that piece grew a little smaller after a tough 2-1 loss at Shakopee.

With the win by the Sabers and a victory by Holy Angels, Farmington, Shakopee and Holy Angels shared the league title with identical 6-1 league records.

The conference crown is the first ever claimed by a Farmington soccer team.

Alex Frost scored the Tiger goal on an assist from Izzie Ferm to get the visitors off on the right foot but the Sabers answered with a score five minutes before intermission to send the teams to the break knotted at a goal apiece.

Shakopee netted the game-winner with 12 minutes to play on a penalty kick.

"We rested many players for much of the game to prepare for the section next week, but it was still  disappointing the way things transpired," Coach Rob Carpentier said.

The two Saber goals were the first and only scores allowed by the Farmington defense in seven conference games this season.

The Tigers (10-3-2) enter post-season play next Thursday at Tiger Stadium against an opponent to be determined by seeding.
