Girls X-Country: Tigers run with the best

Marcia Pacheco was the first Tiger runner across the finish line
The Tigers picked a bad time to catch the flu bug.

Varsity regular Alexis Smith sat out the meet and a couple of other top line performers were slowed by illness at the Victoria Lions Club Invitational held Tuesday afternoon at the Chaska Par 30 Golf Course.

Still, Farmington managed a 14th place finish in the meet that featured some of the elite teams in the state. Chanhassen won top honors with Lakeville South and Eden Prairie grabbing the second and third spots.

"This was a tough meet for us," Farmington coach Heidi Revels said. "If we can get back healthy and strong, I am confident we will finish well at the conference and section meets.

"We are always aiming to finish better than last year, and with how well the girls are staying within 1:30 from each other in their races, I know that they can be very successful at the big meets."

Maricia Pacheco led the Tiger effort with a 30th place finish in the 161-runner field, covering the 4000-meter course in 15:48.9

Maria Kiminski was the second Tiger to check in, running 16:27.3 and ranking 67th. Sofia Chawick (84th; 16:41.9); Sami Hyytinen (85th; 16:41.9); Maricella Pacheco (116th; 17:15.5); Sarah Cummings (135th; 17:36) and Lexie Laube (154th; 18:31.3) completed the Farmington lineup.

Revels was especially pleased with the work of Hyytinen who was the fourth Tiger finisher in her first varsity start.

She finished strong," Revels said.

Saturday the girls head to Duluth for a big meet and next Tuesday they return to the metro for their annual appearance at the Shakopee Invitational.
