Girls BB: Tigers singing Rochester blues

Sydney Speer 8 rebounds, 4 assists
Forgive the Tigers if they don't want to see the bright lights of Rochester again anytime soon.

For the second time in five days Farmington made the bus trip to the Olmstead County seat and came back with a loss, this one a 58-43 setback to Rochester Mayo.

"It felt like we never recovered from the bus ride," Tiger coach Sondra Chadwick said. "We came out very flat with little to no energy.

"The team has been hit by a flu bug and we had a couple of injuries, so the girls are not playing at 100 percent. We had a very short bench due to kids not making the trip."

The Spartans were the aggressors in the opening half, using their zone defense to shut down the Tigers' attack. Mayo led 30-20 at the break.

"As we expected, Mayo slowed the game down on us," Chadwick said. "Again, we were not aggressive enough and settled for outside shots. We need to learn to play more aggressively, even when fatigued and outsized."

Sofia Chadwick had another solid all-around night for the Tigers, leading all scorers with 17 points and her team in rebounding (9) and steals (3).

Abby Gallus 12 points, 4 rebounds
Abby Gallus hit double figures for the second straight game with 10 points and also dished out a team-high four assists. Sydney Speer pulled down eight rebounds.

"Syd has done a great job rebounding and defending for us as a much under-sized forward in these first three games," Chadwick said.

Freshman Morgan Mach added four points and four assists in the losing effort.

"Morgan has stepped up nicely and contributed to our team," Chadwick said.

The Tigers finally get to play on their home court Thursday night when they host Rosemount at Tiger Gym.

"Hopefully we can have everyone healthy so we can see what we can do with a complete roster," Chadwick said.
