For the second straight game the Tigers couldn't hang onto an early two-goal lead and this time it resulted in a tough 3-2 Missota Conference Tuesday night at Northfield.

The loss dropped Farmington to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1 in Missota Conference play.

"Losing the lead in the tie at Owatonna was a stinger, and this one just poured salt into the wound," Tiger coach Jon Holmes said.

"Our time of possession for the entire game was at least 2-1 for us and we really controlled the tempo. We rarely allowed them access to our zone, but when we did we made some rather large mistakes that gave them the game."

Grace Gavin and Rachael Peroutky got the visitors off to a great start with first period goals but the Raiders got some momentum when they scored with just 14 seconds remaining in the opening period.

Northfield had just seven shots on goal in the second period but converted on two of them and then kept the Tigers off the board in a scoreless third to seal the victory.

"We have had some problems taking first period success into the second period," Holmes said, "and then when the third period rolls around, we have not quite figured out how to successfully play catch-up.

"We have really played well in the third period but just have not been strong enough to take the puck to the net and find the twine."

Penalties again played a part in the outcome with the Raiders scoring two of their three goals on the power play.

Farmington goaltender Madison Bowe stopped 19 of 22 shots in the conference opener.

The Tigers will be looking to get back in the win column Friday night when they entertain Chaska/Chanhassen at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
