"This was the best game we have played all year, bar none," Holmes said. We hustled. We had scoring chances and capitalized on them. We looked really, really good.
"The girls knew it too. I'm hoping this can turn the tide for us. The girls have been working hard in practice and their efforts are starting to pay dividends."
The Stormhawks scored three unanswered goals in the opening period and in the end that probably decided the outcome. But from there on, it was a battle.
The Tigers stormed back in the second period with three goals of their own, one each by Haleigh Zwart, Michaela Tonsager and Rachael Peroutky, and trailed just 4-3 heading into the final 17 minutes.
Peroutky, Zwart, Haley Doll and Brooke Raske each recorded assist for the Tigers in the second period comeback.
The margin remained at one goal before the Stormhawks scored twice in the final 2:29 when the Tigers had to take some chances to get the puck.
Eighth-grader Molly Singewald made her first start in goal for Farmington and finished with 35 saves as the Stormhwawks held a 41-35 shots on goal advantage..
"After Molly settled in she played very well against a very good team," Holmes said. "She has a lot of positive attributes and because she is so young she has a lot of time to build on them."
