Alumni News: Kenealy paces Southwest State to win over Minnesota State, Moorhead

2008 FHS grad Abby Kenealy scored 17 points, pulled down five rebounds and handed out six assists to lead her Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team to a 68-59 win over Minnesota State, Moorhead, Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Marshall. Kenealy leads the Mustangs in scoring with a per game average of 11.8 points and ranks second in rebounding with 4.4 a contest.

2009 Tiger female Athlete of the Year Kirstee Rotty has become a two-sport athlete at St. Olaf College. After helping the Oles win the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball championship as a defensive specialist, the former Tiger joined the basketball team where she has played in eight of nine games. In last week's 75-69 win over Augsburg Rotty had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes of action.

In a pre-holiday intrasquad track meet at the University of Minnesota, a pair of former Tiger state champions fared well in the throwing events. 2007 male Athlete of the Year Trey Davis ranked second in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw while 2010 Athlete of the Year Logan Hussung took fourth in the shot and sixth in the weight throw...Ex-Tiger Kaitlin Mincke(2009) is a middle distance runner on the University of Minnesota women's track team.

Kelli Johnson of the FHS class of 2007 is the third leading scorer for the University of Wisconin-Eau Claire with two goals and six assists in 12 games.. High school classmate Erin Johnson has scored one goal in playing all 18 games for Bemidji State University this season...Another member of the 2007 Class A runner-up team, Erin McNamara, is a goalie for St. Olaf College. McNamara is on track to graduate this spring and plans to attend graduate school next fall at either the University of Wisconsin-Madison or Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska) where she will study occupational therapy.

Ex-Tiger Eric Wicktor has his Pine City boys basketball team off to a 2-4 start...Former Tiger basketball manager Steve Dow is a student assistant coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. Dow also works part-time in the sports information office at the St. Peter school...Long-time FHS football assistant coach Gary Burr is back in his familiar winter position of assistant girls basketball coach at Hastings, his high school alma mater.

Ex-Tiger three-sport athlete Luke Sturm is an assistant girls basketball coach at Wadena-Deer Creek...Former Tiger Josh Burhans is an assistant wrestling coach at Eagan...1994 FHS female Athlete of the Year Amber Hegland stepped down as girls hockey coach at Wayzata this winter but will be in the dugout as that school's softball coach in the spring...Former Tiger skater Stefanie Schmitz who went on to a distinguished hockey career at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is officiating women's games in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) this winter.
