Boys Basketball: Offense AWOL in 62-42 loss to Red Wing

12 points

The Coaches for Cancer Night at Tiger Gym Friday, Feb. 4, raised $1009 and Tiger coach Shane Wyandt couldn't have been faulted for considering a second collection for his recent struggling offense.
The Tigers couldn't buy a basket in the first half and didn't have much better luck in the second in a 62-42 Missota Conference loss to Red Wing. It was the fourth straight league losing effort for Farmington and marked the third time in four outings it has failed to score 50 points.
"Right now it has a lot to do with confidence," Wyandt said. "When we were winning games early, we were knocking down shots and scoring points.
"We're forcing things and hurrying in our half court offense. We need to hit a few shots and get our confidence back."
Neither team could find the basket in the early going. Between them they missed 12 of their first 13 shots and neither scored a field goal until Red Wing's 6-8 center Isaac Sevlie slammed home a dunk at the 13:42 mark.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Zach Wallace and Austin Bassett gave the Tigers a six-point lead at 14-8 but the Wingers closed the half on an 18-4 run to take an eight-point halftime lead.
A three-point play by Alex Michels pulled Farmington to within 28-24 early in the second half but Red Wing scored 23 of the next 30 points to blow the game wide open.
Farmignton made just seven field goals in the first half and eight in the second.
Michels was the only Tiger crack double figures, finishing with a dozen points. Sevlie and Pat Kelly each tallied 14 for Red Wing.
The loss left the Tigers with a season record of 7-11 and a 2-5 mark through the first round of Missota Conference play. The locals step out of league action for a match-up at South St. Paul on Tuesday, Feb. 8, and then begin the second half of their conference schedule Friday with a game at Shakopee.
