Wrestling: Progress comes in small steps

Seventh-ranked Carl Elmer won 11-3 decision

Tiger wrestling coach Chad Olson knew the 2010-11 season would be one of growth for his young and inexperienced squad with progress measured in feet rather than miles.
Thursday night, Feb. 3, the Tigers too another small step forward in a 57-16 Missota Conference dual meet loss at Chanhassen.
"We only forfeited in one weight class and by next Friday we will have that filled," Olson said. "It is slowly but surely starting to come together."
Farmington posted three wins in its final conference meet of the season, including a six-point pin by Joe Hoeve at 145 lbs. and fall by Tyler Engel in the 171 lbs. bout.
The other points came from Carl Elmer, the state's seventh-rated 140-pounder, who beat ninth-ranked Gavin Larsen 11-3. Elmer's win was the 107th of his career and raised his season record to 27-7.
Farmington has one dual meet remaking on the schedule, a road face-off with Lakeville South on Friday, Feb. 11. The Section 2AAA team tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at Chaska with the section individual meet set for the following weekend at Prior Lake.
