Girls Hockey: Tigers stay perfect in Missota with 7-0 shutout of Holy Angels

Rachel Peroutky (top) goal, assist
Maddie Strid 1st career goal

Krystal Baumann added three more goals to her personal ledger and sidekick Hanna Alexander scored twice as the Tigers cruised to a 7-0 shutout over Holy Angels Tuesday night, Feb. 1, at Richfield Arena.
Farmington (17-6, 11-0 in the Missota Conference) defeated the Holy Angels (1-18-1; 1-11) by an identical score when the teams met last month at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
"This was really a tough game to play," Tiger coach Jon Holmes. "It takes more mental focus than a big game since the players have to train and even trick themselves into focusing on small battles and objectives for each shift...We struggled in the first period with it and then settled in as the game went on."
Baumann's power play goal accounted for the only scoring of the opening period with the winners upping their lead to 3-0 on second period scores from Baumann and Alexander.
The visitors outshot the over-matched Stars 29-5 over the first two periods. making goaltender Jessica Erchul's 17th win of the season an easy one. Ashley Corcoran worked the nets in the third period and stopped both shots she faced.
The Farmington offense began to hit its stride in the third period with four different players--Alexander, Baumann, Rachel Peroutky and Maddie Strid--finding the net. Strid's score was the first of her varsity career.
Farmington closes it regular season with a home game against Northfield Thursday night. Section 1 play begins Friday, Feb. 11, with a home contest against an opponent to be determined by seeding.
"We will need to have a couple of high speed practices this week and next to keep us on track for finishing conference play off well before leaping into the playoffs," Holmes said.
