The Tigers dropped their third straight Missota Conference game, a 59-43 road loss Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Chanhassen.
The win dropped Farmington's season record to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Storm is also 7-10 for the season; 3-3 in the conference.
"Getting to loose balls and second chance opportunities killed us," Tiger coach Shane Wyandt said. "We didn't make shots when we needed to and when we don't do that we can't set up our defense. It's a domino effect."
For the second game in a row the locals saw a bad first half put them in hole. It wasn't so much that the Tigers didn't hit their shots (46 percent) but more that they couldn't do anything to stop Chanhassen who finished the period hitting 69 percent, many coming off the offensive glass.
Chanhassen outrebounded its guests 15-9 in the opening period and took a 37-23 lead to the halftime break.
The game was much more competitive in the second half but Farmington could never quite put together a closing run.
Wyandt got the balanced offense he had been looking for with Alex Michels (14), Austin Bassett (13) and Darren Beenken (12) all scoring in double figures but no other Tiger managed more than five points.
A strong second half on the boards evened out the rebound numbers with Chanhassen finishing with a 30-28 edge. Michels had a team-high eight boards and also chipped in with a pair of blocks.
Bassett drained three three-pointers for the second straight game and also added three assists. Sebren Baer led in assists with four.
Farmington closes out its first trip through the Missota Conference schedule with a home game against Red Wing Friday night.
The game has been designated Farmington Youth Basketball Night with all youth players wearing their jerseys admitted for free. It is also Coaches vs. Cancer Night, a fundraiser that will feature several special activities, including a raffle and a silent auction.
"It will be a great event," Wyandt said. "We're hoping for a nice crowd."
