The Tigers all but wrapped up the top seed for the Section 1 post-season tournament with a convincing 63-42 victory over Rochester Century Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Rochester.
Farmington (15-2) is a perfect 5-0 against section opponents with an average margin of victory of 17.6 points. Two section teams remain on the regular season schedule, a one-win Hastings squad and Missota Conference rival Northfield. The Tigers downed the Raiders 67-43 earlier in the season.
As has been the case most of the season, defense sparked the win over Century. The Tigers held the Panthers to just eight points over the game's first 10 minutes and 14 for the first half to lead by 17 points at intermission.
Taylor Meyer and Elena Koch paced the offense in the first period with 10 and eight points respectively.
Jamie Kenealy led the way in the second half with seven points as a balanced Farmington attack continued to build on its cushion.
"I wish we would have shot better (37 percent) and done a little better job of keeping them off the offensive boards," Tiger coach Jason Berg said. "But we did a good job of handling their pressure defense (11 turnovers)."
All in all, eight different players scored for the winners with Meyer and Koch leading the way with 16 and 14 points. Kenealy cracked double digits with 11 points and Isis Alexander added seven.
Meyer had 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists to go with her team-high point total. Jordan Bridges added six points, eight boards and a four blocked shots. Alexander, Kenealy and Shelby Calhoun each handed out three assists.
Farmington, locked in a three-way tie for second place in the Missota Conference with New Prague and Chanhassen with a 5-2 record, kicks off the second round of conference play Friday night with a road game at Red Wing. The Tigers return home Tuesday to face Chanhassen.
