Boys Hockey: Tigers weather the Storm 6-2

Farmington put together a complete game in an impressive 6-2 win over defending Missota Conference champion Chanhassen Friday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena.

Justin Hyytinen and Dallas Tucker each scored a pair of goals and Jack Erickson and Tanner Grubb also found the net for the winners who posted their first conference victory of the season.

Farmington, 1-3-1 in league play, upped its overall mark to 6-7-1.

"We played really well like we have been but made good on more opportunities around the net," Tiger coach Keith Revels said. "We got some nice second looks."

The winners got off to their typical quick start with Grubb and Hyytinen finding the twine in the first period for a 2-1 lead.

A power play goal from Tucker and an even-handed score by Erickson made it 4-1 to set up what has been so far this season a shaky third period.

But not on this night. The Storm cut it to 4-2 early in the third but the Tigers countered with goals by Hyytinen and Tucker to salt the game away.

"The third period has not been kind to us this season but this story had a different ending," Revels said.

In addition to the four Farmington goal scorers, six Tigers got in the score book with assists. Grant Hauswirth had a pair and Grady Hauswirth, Justin Novak, Kevin Olund, Tucker and Erickson each had one.

Gage Overby patrolled the nets for Farmington and recorded his third win of the season with 17 saves as the Tigers outshot the Storm 28-19.

"We got solid goaltending again," Revels said. "Gage has done a nice job over the past few outings."

"It was nice to win a game in the third period," Revels said. "Hopefully that sparks a trend for us as we move forward."

Farmington gets back to Missota Conference business Tuesday night with a road game at Chaska before returning home Friday for a league contest with Shakopee at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
