Gymnastics: Tigers runner-up at Invite

Farmington reached a season-high point total and finished second in its annual Tiger Invitational held Saturday at the District Service Center.


The Tigers scored 135.3 points to finish behind meet champion Austin's winning total of 143.1. Minneapolis South was a distant third with 112.8; Columbia Heights ranked fourth with 97.25 points.

Kiana Lord led the Tiger effort, placing in three events and ranking fourth in the all-around standings with 34.75 points.

Lord finished third on the balance beam (9.15) and fifth in vault (9.05) and the uneven bars (8.05).

Tahra Eckert placed in two events for the Tigers, taking fourth in vault (9.01) and sixth on the beam (8.75).

Amanda Davenport scored the only Farmington first of the meet, claiming the floor exercise title with a 9.05 mark. Taylor Schmaltz tied for fifth in the same event with a score of 8.65.

"Well, we are out of our 133 (points) slump," coach Lynn Bauman said.  "The girls did great!  We had a bit of a hiccup on floor, but we were able to keep going.... At this point I just need the girls to believe in themselves like I do. We can still to go along way as a team."

The Tiger junior varsity also finished second in the team standings, scoring 117.1 points. Austin won the JV meet with a 122.75 total.

Racquel Beckett topped the floor exercise standings and also took third on the balance beam. Kendall Novak ranked third in vaulting.
