Illness, injuries and match count issues limited Farmington to five varsity wrestlers at Saturday's Tri-County Invitational at Montgomery

"We also took three of our junior varsity wrestlers," Tiger coach Chad Olson said, "so they could experience competing in a varsity tournament."

All things considered the skeleton crew had a good day with each individual winning at least one match and seven of the eight earning place points. The Tigers ranked seventh in the final team standings with 75 points.

Brayden Chapman led the Tiger effort, winning his first two matches before losing to New Prague's James Berg in the finals of the 132-pound bracket.

"Brayden is really wrestling well," Olson said. "He started the season 3-5 but has now improved his record to 14-8."

Logan Haakana (170) and Chris McCue (182) each finished the day 3-2 and John Walz went 2-2 in the 145-pound weight class. Jamine Scavone, who has been wrestling at 285 lbs. for the Tigers, went 1-2 in the 220-pound bracket.

Each of the Farmington JV entries won a match. Santana Perdomo (138 pounds) prevailed in one of three bouts and Tyler Erickson (113) and Brian Caravantes (120) each finished the day 1-3.

The Tigers hit the mat again Thursday night when they travel to Northfield for a Missota Conference triangular with the Raiders and New Prague.
