Baseball: Offense AWOL in loss to Zumbrota

Jordan Lugowksi had the only Tiger RBI
The Tigers got a fifth straight strong performance from their pitching staff but the offense produced just six hits in a 3-2 non-conference loss to Zumbrota-Mazeppa Friday night in Zumbrota.

"We came out a little flat," coach Mike Winters said, "maybe a little mentally drained from the two conference doubleheaders earlier in the week.. .We didn't play poorly, just not good enough to win.  The few mental and physical errors we committed were costly."

Tiger starter Austin Martinsen went the first three innings on the mound and gave up all three runs, two of them earned, and took the loss. Kevin Olund came on in the fourth and pitched shutout ball the rest of the way.

Farmington scored solo runs in the fourth and sixth innings but could not manage to string any hits together as its season record dropped to 5-8.

Leadoff hitter Johnny Dittman and Spencer Merle each had  pair of hits for the Tigers. Jordan Lugowksi had the only run batted in. Merle and Olund scored the Farmington runs.

The Tigers close the regular season this week with a pair of Missota Conference doubleheaders, Tuesday against Chaska at Tiger Field and Thursday at Shakopee.
