Last week the Tigers lost a frustrating 8-7 game to Holy Angels at Tiger Stadium. Tuesday they avenged that loss with a come-from-behind 9-8 victory over the Stars in Richfield.

Farmington trailed 6-2 at the halftime break before putting on a furious second half comeback in which they scored seven goals while holding the high-powered Holy Angels offense to just two.

The visitors scored four goals in the first two minutes of the second half to turn the game around.

"We talked about playing as a team, moving the ball up the field by passing and getting a lot of touches in the offensive zone," coach Dan Pickens said, "and to our credit we went out there and executed.

"Overall, it was just a solid team effort and it was nice to finally come out on the winning side of one of those close games."

The one-two scoring punch of Shelby Klotz and Rachael Welzin carried most of the offensive load for the winners. Klotz found the net four times and Welzin scored three goals and assisted on three more for a six-point night.

Brooke Genzler scored her fourth goal of the season and Kaeli Halverson netted her third for the Tigers who improved their season record to 2-5. Michaela Tonsager added an assist for Farmington.

The Tigers outshot the Stars 27-21 with Farmington goaltender Maddie Kohlbeck coming up with 13 saves. She forced a direct shot high with 1:22 play to help preserve the win.

Almost as important as Tuesday's win bouncing back from a disappointing 17-7 road loss at Lakeville South the previous night.

The unbeaten Cougars (5-0) dominated that contest from the outset, building a comfortable 8-3 lead by intermission.

"We got cut apart defensively, giving up 32 shots," coach Dan Pickens said. "We weren't able to win the one-on-one battles with their top players. I have to hand to them (South). They catch and pass very well."

Welzin had three goals and Genzler two in the losing effort. Klotz and Tonsager also found the net for the Tigers.

Kohlbeck was under pressure most of the night and finished with 15 saves.
