Farmington rapped 25 hits on the way to a 14-4, 6-2 Missota Conference sweep of Red Wing Monday afternoon at Tiger Field. The victories were the seventh and eighth straight for the Tigers who have not lost since their season-opening loss to New Ulm.

Coach Paul Harrington's team jumped to a 9-1 lead after three innings in the opener which was halted by the 10-run rule after five innings.

The Tigers pounded 17 hits, including three apiece by Taylor Yousse and Toni Hunsinger. Carly Esselman, Amber Doyle, Ashley Betzold and Molly Berdan each had a pair of hits for Farmington.

Betzold drove in three runs, Hunsinger two and Esselman, Youuse and Doyle one apiece for the winners. Esselman scored three times and Berdan and Hunsinger each scored twice.

Maddie Muelken
Maddie Muelken picked up her second pitching win of the season, allowing six hits and finishing with six strikeouts

"The girls came out strong and smacked the ball all over the field," Harrington said. "Last year their lefty gave us a lot of problems and we struggled a bit before we got rolling. This year we got going right away."

Betzold notched her sixth win of the 2013 season in the nightcap, striking out 10 batters and giving up just four hits.

The Wingers led 1-0 after two innings before Farmington took the lead for good with a four-run third inning.

Betzold and Muelken led the eight-hit Farmington offense with two hits apiece. Betzold and Yousse each knocked in two runs, Yousse's second coming on a suicide squeeze bunt that scored Hunsinger in the sixth.

"We were a little lethargic in some innings and we didn't put many good swings on the ball in the second game," Harrington said, "but we managed to put together a couple of strong innings and that carried us through."

The Tigers get right back in action Tuesday when they entertain Northfield in another twin bill at Tiger Field.
