Farmington (10-1) continued to steamroll through its compressed schedule on Tuesday, sweeping a Missota Conference doubleheader at Northfield 9-1 and 5-3.

The double dip win was the second in as many days for the Tigers who extended their winning streak to 10 games.

"We give the kids a lot of credit," coach Paul Harrington said. "It's not easy going on the road and sweeping a team on their home field.

"We have been behind in five games this year and have come back to win four of them. That is very similar to last year and we hope that mentality continues."

The Tigers scored four runs in their first three at-bats and then continued to pound the ball the rest of the way in the opening game win. The winners finished with 14 hits, including three apiece by Carly Esselman, Amber Doyle and Kendall Novak.

Esselman rapped a double and a triple and drove in three runs. Novak also scored three times and she and Doyle each knocked in a run.

Ashley Betzold struck out six batters through the first five innings to pick up the win. Maddie Muelken came on in the sixth and hurled two innings of scoreless relief.

"We scored in six of the seven innings so we were always putting the pressure on," Harrington said  "The bottom of the order scored most of the runs and it is always good to have the back half producing."

Muelken started the nightcap and gave up the three Northfield runs. Betzold came in in the fourth and slammed the door the rest of the way to record her second win of the afternoon.

The Tigers still trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth when they erupted for three runs and the win. Two walks and an error keyed the rally and Toni Hunsinger provided the game-winning hit.

The Tigers had a season-low five hits in the second game with Esselman producing two of them to give her a 5-8 day at the plate. Hunsinger drove in two runs.

"We hit a lot of balls hard but right at them," Harrington said. "It was one of those games where things didn't go smoothly, but the girls played hard, never quit and found a way to win."

The busy schedule continues on Thursday when Chanahassen comes to Tiger Field for another Missota Conference doubleheader.
