Baseball: Tigers bounce back

JD Hinks winning pitcher in Game 1
Farmington bounced back from three consecutive losses to state-rated St. Cloud Apollo and Red Wing to sweep New Prague 13-2 and 5-2 Tuesday afternoon in New Prague.

"We finally put it all together.," Tiger coach Mike Winters said. "The pitchers did a good job of getting ahead and putting the ball in play.  Defensively we made the plays we should, and we limited our mental mistakes.

"In game one we had a nice mix at the plate. We were patient when we should be and aggressive when we needed to be. In the second game we took advantage of everything they gave us."

In the opener the visitors pounded 13 hits and took advantage of four New Prague errors to win going away.

Four Tigers had multiple hits in the game.  Spencer Merle led the way with three hits, including a two-run homer, and four runs batted in. Jordan Croock had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs.

Johnny Dittman was 2-4 with two runs scored while Jordan Lugowski collected two hits in three trips and scored a run. Kevin Olund had a pair of runs batted in.

JD Hinks worked the first four innings and picked up the pitching victory, allowing two runs on seven hits. Merle threw three innings of one-hit relief.

Jordan Beschorner earned the pitching win in the nightcap, going five innings and allowing just two runs on four hits. Parker Holmstrom and Olund each hurled a scoreless frame in relief.

Farmington managed just four hits in the contest, all singles, but took advantage of nine New Prague bases on balls, three of them by Merle, to score all five runs in the middle innings.

Jordan DeCroock 3 RBI in doubleheader
DeCroock, Merle, Nick Schoeing and Bobby Eckert each drove in a run for the winners.

"We did what we had to do late in a game to win," Winters said. "We threw strikes, made plays, and put the ball in play...We are an inning or two away from having won every game this season."

Weather permitting, the Tigers are to get back on the field Thursday in a Missota Conference doubleheader with Holy Angels at Donaldson Field in Richfield.
