Members of Blazing Cats consolation champs


FHS seniors Ashley Smith and Christine Olson helped the Farmington/Lakeville/Burnsville Blazing Cats to the consolation championship of the state adapted softball (CI) tournament played last weekend in Coon Rapids.
The Blazing Cats opened state play with a 15-5 setback to eventual state champion Anoka-Hennepin before sweeping a pair of games in the consolation bracket to claim the fifth place trophy.
The Cats downed Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville 14-9 in the consolation semifinals before scoring a 13-7 decision over New Prague/Montgomery-Lonsdale in the finals.
Smith, who landed a spot on the all-tournament team, pitched all three games for the Cats, picking up a pair of victories. She also had a big game at the plate against Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville, collecting three hits and scoring a run.
The Blazing Cats finished the 2011 season with a 7-5-1 record.
