Tony Lalani shot a team-low 82 in final round
Farmington started the final round of the Section 1AAA championships in eighth place and that's exactly where the Tigers finished.
The final 18-hole round was played in blistering heat Monday at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club in Hastings and coach Jon Holmes said the conditions had a major effect on his squad.
"It was a scorcher," Holmes said. "Two of the boys suffered heat exhaustion and one needed to be taken off the course early to cool down.
"The conditions were ripe for scoring but you just had to get by the mental block that it was too hot for golf. Those who were able to block it out and just rolled with it shot pretty well."
Lakeville North successfully defended its section title, finishing with a 36-hole total of 614 strokes. Lakeville South placed second at 629, followed by Rochester Century 636, Owatonna 641, Winona 652, Rochester Mayo 661, Rochester John Marshall 671, Farmington 679.
Tony Lalani had the lowest final round for the Tigers at 82, cutting 16 strokes off his opening round 98 for a 180 total. Tommy May finished the tourney at a team-low 166 (83-83).
Cooper Loew checked in at 168 (81-87); Matt Provost 172 (84-88) and Jacob Hanson 170 (89-90). Erik Homlstrom shot 89 for the opening round but had to withdraw because of the heat in the second.
