Senior high jumper Sam Hanson closed the books on his high school track career with an appearance at the 2011 Class AA State Track and Field Championships held June 10-11 at Hamline University.
Hanson, who set a school record of 6-7 early in the season and was the reigning Missota Conference and Section 1AA champion coming into the meet, cleared 6-2 at state, good enough for a 13th place finish.
"Getting to state was Sam's goal and it was achieved," coach Brian Helmstetter said. "He looked really good the first couple of jumps and cleared 6-2 easily. He was over the bar at 6-4 on his first two attempts but hit his foot on the way down both times."
