Tyler Magalis, all-American
Tigers senior Tyler Magakis has added another line to his already impressive diving credentials.
Magalis, the 2011 Class AA state one-meter board champion, was recently named an all-American by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA).
FHS diving coach Gregg Rappe explained that receiving the NISCA award is quite an accomplishment.
"It is performance-based and judged just like a meet," he said. "There were 180 nominating tapes submitted and Tyler was ranked 39th. The top 100 receive all-American status.
This is a great honor for Tyler. He worked hard and achieved the goals he set early in the year. One by one, he would learn a life lesson by changing his thinking to become a better-performing athlete."
Magalis, who plans to continue his diving career at St. Cloud State University next year, is the third Tiger diver to receive all-American honors. RJ Rappe, the 2005 Class A one-meter state champ, received the distinction twice, finishing 11th and 26th and Matt Mahowald ranked 48th after his senior season.
