Victor Simones stopped 23 shots and Andrew Peterson netted two goals as Farmington defeated conference opponent Chaska, 4-0, Tuesday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena.

The Tigers (5-5-2, 2-1-1) scored at least one goal in each period and outshot the Hawks 35-23.

“We played pretty well defensively and Victor was on his game,” head coach Keith Revels said. “He made a couple of big saves to preserve [the shutout].”

Peterson returned to the Farmington lineup after missing one game due to an illness. His first period unassisted shorthanded goal at 5:29 was the game winner.

“Peterson's return gave us a jump start,” Revels said.

Kevin Olund would extend the lead at 13:17 from Blake Weinand and Jason Thomas. Grant Hauswirth, with an assist from Peterson, would net the only goal of the second period at 11:42.

Peterson’s second goal was an empty netter at 16:31. Hauswirth and Jack Erickson earned assists on the final goal of the game.

Revels said despite the four goals that his squad struggled to break the puck out of the defensive zone at times but got better as the game went on.

“Still trying some different line combinations up front but have a group of nine and three more fourth liners that are vying for playing time and defensively only two regulars off last teams,” Revels said. “They are growing as a group and making progress as the season progresses. Victor is following up a solid junior year in net putting together another good campaign.”

The senior netminder matched last season’s total with his first shutout of the season.

Farmington travels to New Prague on Thursday to take on the Trojans at 7:15 p.m.
