Alumni: Former Tigers unite for over-40 tourney

Only a handful of them play any type of softball on a regular basis anymore, but 15 former Tiger athletes got together to compete in the Minnesota Over-40 State Fastpitch Tournament played Aug 27-28 at Caswell Park in Mankato.
Playing under the name of Blair's Painting (owned by former Tiger Blair Simonsen) and calling itself the "Over-the-Hill Gang II", the Farmington-led contingent won one of four games and played competitively in every game.
Blair's lost to Odin 3-2 in the opening round and then bounced back for an 11-7 victory over St. Cloud. They lost to St. Charles 5-4 in game three and then fell to eventual champion Jordan Realty 6-3 in the finale.
"We did fine," manager and organizer Paul Harrington said. "Most of the guys we played against play on a regular basis. It was a fun trip."
Former Tigers playing in the tournament included Simonsen, Harrington, Mickey Gergen, Steve Gerths, Blair Simonsen, Dough Hoeppner, Randy Ratzlaff, Daren Betzold, Mike Applegate, Mark Zitzmann, Dale Ronning, Dave Nowacki, Lance Betzold, Nick Anderson, Gary Neilan and Gary Broske.
