Girls Tennis: Red Wing ovepowering in 7-0 defeat

1st doubles team of Katie Burgess (top) and Ally Midboe

Perennial Missota Conference power Red Wing proved too much for the Tigers in a 7-0 dual meet loss Thursday, Sept. 8, in Red Wing.
"Red Wing is very talented," Tiger coach Jack Olwell said. "We were coming off a kind of high after playing well against a good Burnsville team where we were near the top of our game. So a letdown was not surprising. Still we had some good performances."
In singles play, Megan Stivers put up the best fight, losing 2-6, 2-6, in a match where the final score may have been a bit deceiving.
"Megan played well enough to win this match," Olwell said. "She controlled a high percentage of the points."
At second doubles, the Tiger tandem of Jessica Autey and Rachel Molitor dropped a 2-6, 3-6 decision.
"This team works well together and plays intelligent tennis," Olwell said.
The Tigers hope to get back on track Monday, Sept. 12, when they entertain Trinity at the Boeckman Middle School courts. Farmington defeated Trinity 6-1 at its invitational tournament two weeks ago.
