Girls Swimming: Storm blows by Tigers late in 98-88 loss

Kaitlyn O'Reilly
1st place 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay
2nd place 200 medley, 400 freestyle relay

Chanhassen lived up to it moniker, using a strong finish to storm to a 98-88 dual meet win over the Tigers Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Dodge Middle School pool.
Farmington burst to a 10-4 lead after the first event and then saw the Storm battle back to tie the count three times--at 31, 39 and 55. The visitors won three of the final four events to finally pull away.
"It was an exciting meet to watch to say the least," coach Jen Marshall said. "You don't often see a meet tied that many times.
"Chanhassen is a lot stronger than last season, and that should prove for a great conference meet."
Farmington scored first place finishes in four of the 12 events. Individual winners included Kaitlyn O'Reilly (100 breaststroke); Kendall Novak (diving) and Zoe Avestruz (100 freestyle). O'Reilly, Avestruz, Abby Haugen and Hannah Seitzinger combined to win the 200 medley relay.
The Tigers also took second place in six individual events: Cory Ruzicka in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle; Kirsten Kracke in the 200 freestyle; Haugen in the 100 breaststroke; Avestruz in the 50 freestyle and O'Reilly in the 200 individual medley.
Scoring third place points were Ellie Sundet in the 200 freestyle and Kracke in the 100 backstroke.
"We swam well overall," Marshall said. "For the most part I am pleased where we are right now. A few girls need to step up and fill the voids. It's just a matter of who is willing to do so."
The Tigers are off until Thursday, Sept. 15, when they host Missota Conference rival Shakopee at the Dodge Middle School pool.
