Two days after losing a tough, five-game match at Red Wing, the Tigers rebounded for a split of four contests and a seventh place finish at the talent-filled, 16-team Keller Classic tournament at Coon Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 10.
"We really played well overall for the day," coach Mike Woody said. "Two of our matches went three games and that was huge after Thursday night's loss. I was really proud of the growth I saw throughout the day...Also, our JV team won their tournament."
The Tigers began their busy day with a grueling 26-24, 24-26, 16-15 win over Big Lake and then lost to eventual tournament runner-up Fridley 17-25, 12-25 in the quarterfinals.
In the fifth place bracket, Farmington fell to Orono in another three-game match, 26-24, 15-25, 5-15 before rallying in the seventh place contest for a 25-21, 19-25, 21-19 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret's.
The 2-2 tournament run leaves the locals with a 4-4 season mark as they head into Monday's (Sept. 13) non-conference match with Hastings at Tiger Gym.
